In January, the Mara Elephant Project (MEP) team hit the ground running with VirtualRanger and our Lead Reporter model.
Over 50 community members, including rangers from Loita Hills Conservancy, were trained on VirtualRanger, our human-elephant conflict (HEC) reporting tool.
Our lead reporter model is designed to equip community members in high conflict areas with the skills to report incidents with precision and speed, allowing MEP rangers to respond more effectively. With 20 of these trainees set to become peer-trainers, we’re rapidly expanding local capacity to manage conflict before it escalates.
A huge thank you to the MEP team for their incredible work implementing this on the ground and strengthening coexistence across the landscape. We’re already looking forward to the follow-up sessions in March!
